Acer Chromebook not powering on [SOLVED]

Postby microlost » Wed Oct 25, 2017 12:15 am

I have an acer chromebook with a damaged screen (A local idiot hit it with a water bottle) The screen is unusable except for a small corner. I planned on swapping the screen. I opened up the laptop and disconnected the i/o board. I disconnected the screen. It was at that point that I realized that the new screen would not work, so I reconnected the screen an i/o board. I screwed it back together. I then powered it back on to make sure I had not killed it more. Nothing happened, no screen, no lights, nothing. I disconnected and reconnected the i/o board and screen, nothing, did a hard reset, nothing. Any advice?

Sel it as a boat anchor or fancy doorstop.

Sadly I have to agree. You likely fried some component with static. That's almost always the cause of this. Don't poke around inside in the future without knowing how to properly ground yourself.

Normally I would agree, but I did not at any point touch the motherboard except while plugging the power cable back in, and that was while I was grounded. There was a small power light that shut off when the i/o board was unplugged, but now it will not turn on, in my experience, even when something has been killed by static you will usually get some lights working.

Not if it involved the power supply.

From this I assume the machine wasn't fully shut down. In fact it's better to remove the battery as well when working on the internals. It's likely you've fried something.

Last resort and a long shot: try removing the CMOS cell & shorting the "clear CMOS" jumper.
