Can't download photo's from mobile phone - SOLVED !

I'm running Mint 17.3 (32-bit on a laptop, 64-bit on a desktop) with Cinnamon. I have a Doro 6520 phone, a simple clamshell-style, on which I can take pictures. I can send the pictures by MMS to my SO's phone (Samsung Turbo7) and copy them to the PC from there, but I can't transfer the pictures direct from the Doro to the PC under Linux using the USB cable provided. I can, however, transfer pictures directly to a Windows 10 PC . The Doro isn't running Android,it's some proprietary operating system of its own.

If I connect the Doro to the laptop (32-bit 17.3) the Doro says "USB Connected" and the laptop shows a pop-up message "Unable to mount 46Mb volume - no object for D-bus interface".

If I connect the Doro to the Desktop (64-bit 17.3) the Doro says "USB Connected", but the desktop doesn't show any visible response. The syslog shows the following :-

Hello,

It looks like your phone is using usb mass storage and is recognized as a disk drive. I researched your phone and it has a linux
os. Here is what I found below:

I have a samsung smartphone that worked beautifully with mtp for transferring
photos, etc. I have linuxmint 17.3. One day after an upgrade it no longer was recognized. Had to re-enable
authorization in a file. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of the file.

My guess is this can work in linuxmint. Hopefully someone can help.

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

It looks like your system will work with this phone, you might just need to install some packages.

Have you installed "ubuntu-restricted-extras" from the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)? If not, I recommend doing that.

Go into the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)", and look for "MTP" and "udftools" and install those, install "rapid-photo-downloader" application as well. logout or restart and see if it works now.

I think you might have to disable usb_modeswitch by editing /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf
Change line 13 from DisableSwitching=0 to DisableSwitching=1
Reboot

Marcia - thanks for the instructions, but the problem was that the computer didn't detect that the phone was there in the first place, so I couldn't do any of your stuff with it.

phd21 - I applied the changes you suggested. They weren't sufficient on their own to solve the problem, but I've left them installed anyway as they don't seem to do any harm (and may be part of the reason why JeremyB's fix worked).

JeremyB - Thanks, that finally did the trick. I'm not sure if phd21's package suggestion were a necessary precursor, so I've left them installed (there were rather a lot of 'also-installed' packages, didn't see any point in uninstalling them all).

Once again, thanks - saves me a lot of MMS phone calls to my wife's phone, just to be able to print photo's.

I've just bought a Doro 6060, and had the same problem, but this resolved it.
