Window Focus Completely Broken

Hello there.

So I've done a fresh install of Linux Mint 18.2 on my desktop and it seems that no matter what, within minutes of booting Mint that the window focus completely breaks. I'm not sure if it's window focus, but to describe it, I'm typically unable to click controls, sometimes I can click inside of an open application, but focus seems to be locked to another open window and I can't type or anything. Like if I press the super key to bring up the start menu, I can't type there. Just everything is completely broken and I have to reboot to fix it... For a few minutes.

Now just as a note, I was having this same kind of problem in Ubuntu 16.04 I believe. The latest version of Ubuntu which uses GNOME appears to be fine now. But yeah, I don't know what to do, I just want the OS to work right, and I really just have no idea how to even figure out what's going wrong. I tried doing an apt-get upgrade, still the same result.

So uh, this is still a problem for me, but I do have an update. I've switched to Linux Mint 18.3 KDE (fresh install) and now the issue is even worse. Basically all it seems is that I have to click on something in the bottom panel, click away and boom I lose all control. I've even had it say when I tried to open some program (I think it was Driver Manager or something) that it failed to grab my mouse warning me of a potential malicious program, which obviously isn't the case for a fresh install. Not being able to click on anything is really annoying.

However, there is a workaround. But I would like an actual fix. If I do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to bring me to the text mode and Ctrl+Alt+F7 to bring me back to normal, the mouse issues seem to be fixed. Well mostly fixed. What can I do? I don't want to have to deal with this every time I boot into Linux Mint.
