Why doesnt Mint use a simplified sources.list

The sources.list of Debian, Devuan and Ubuntu are pretty simple and straight forward.

Why not like:

OR if someone wants a current stable:

Linux Mint doesn't dictate how people or organizations that host a Linux Mint repository mirror on their servers do directory naming on their own server.

The two most common ways are:
deb server/linuxmint-packages/ sonya main
And:
deb server/linuxmint/packages/ sonya main
