I have lost my root-password

Post by fossiili »

For some reason I can not type my root-password perfectly. Nowadays they must contain so many different characters and one must have many of them.

Some days ago I downloaded the fine new Linux Mint 18.2 (sorry not to remember it's name). I installed it with Cinnamon and updated and did some surfing in the Net. Meanwhile I used my second computer with Fedora 27 Beta 8)

Now I am back on this PC. And some security updates should be installed. Although I have rules to remember my passwords, this time I can not generate the right one from my memory

I'm already 83 so my lovely daughter solaces me:
Do not panic dad. It's only demens senilis[/i.]

No other possibility than to install Mint again :?:

When it asks for a password, enter YOUR password.

Get out, 83 (83 what?) is a very poor excuse when you simply forget something. Any post on this site with the text init=/bin/bash is a pointer to logging in behind the scenes and setting a new password, it happens a lot.

The sad cases are when the OS or the home-folder is encrypted. Then there's no way to cheat, you absolutely must have the correct password to get in, that's the whole point.
