I have been working on that problem, a lot lately. Basically, it is an Ubuntu Package Base issue that is being used by Mint. Here is an official Mint Chart of stable kernels. http://packages.linuxmint.com/search.ph ... ord=kernel Or, more explicitly the recommended starting Kernel for LM 18.3 is 4.10.0-38. From there the general recommendation is to start backing up on kernel numbers if you experience an immediate crash upon booting up Cinnamon.

Mine is at 4.10.0-40 today.
