Hello everyone!
I'm running Linuxmint 18.3 64-bit with Cinnamon 3.6.7 on a Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Motherboard.
I've updated the kernel to 4.13.0-25 as security update against Meltdown and Spectre.
Now the problem is, Cinnamon crashes on the login screen and so I am not able to reach the Desktop.
Any ideas how to fix this issue?
I'm currently using the 4.10 Kernel.

Reboot, >Grub menu >Advanced options >select kernel 4.10 for booting.
... After booted, go to >Update Manager >View >Linux kernels >Remove kernel 4.13
If a single-boot system, press the left SHIFT(for newer Grub2) or ESC(for Grub) key repeatedly during start-up to get the Grub menu.
Or try this link ... viewtopic.php?t=248892 (to get the Grub menu)

Thank you very much for responding.
Yeah, I know how do to that, the thing is...
I need to retain the 4.13 Kernel. From what I understood, it should provide security against Meltdown and Spectre Vuls.

You can't use any kernel that is unstable for your system, no matter how well patched it is. In your case, you should wait for a newer 4.13 kernel from Ubuntu that may be stable for your system. Otherwise, wait for kernel 4.14 or 4.15.
Or you can try running kernel 4.4.108/109. = install kernel 4.4.xxx and reboot. Refresh Update Manager and kernel 4.4.109 should appear as a Level 5 update.
Last resort is to upgrade to LM 19.0 in May 2018.

The current latest, 4.13.0-26, should fix some boot issues. Try that one.
