I'm working on laptop MSI GP62 7RD Leopard. I'm using Linux Mint Sylvia 18.3 KDE edition x64. I didn't install NVIDIA drivers (because of screen tearing which cannot be avoided on this laptop, but it is not the point), I'm on Intel graphics chipset.
Mint has some problems when laptop is rebooted or shut down. First week after fresh installation on every reboot/shut down, terminal shown following message: "A stop job is running for Simple Desktop Display Manager (0s / 1 min 30s)". I had to wait 1 min 30s and Mint finally rebooted/shut down. Now things got little worse: I don't have this message, but instead of this, on every reboot/shut down Mint shows terminal, waits few seconds and probably forces to kill all processes and strange sound can be heard. If I ran Mint and hold power button for few seconds(forces laptop to shut down), same sound can be heard. So that's why I suspect Mint cannot kill in "friendly way" some processes and forces it.
How can I make my Mint to reboot/shut down my laptop in normal way? Is there any way to see in logs what causes such problem?
It seems this problem in not related with any graphic environment: I tested behaviour on Mate, Cinnamon and same problem appears.
System in upgraded to the latest version.
