Laptop shuts down when awaking from suspend

Post by flexo »

My laptop shuts down if I go to suspend/hibernate. This happens whether I close my laptop lid or choose Suspend from the power down settings. This problem started after a time I had to do a hard shutdown when a program froze the computer. Occasionally, the display ratio also changes (back to what I believe is the default) after I reboot.

I've seen people with *similar* issues who needed to fiddle with settings for what to do when the lid closes, but (1) I've checked and tried these repeatedly, and (2) it happens even if I suspend my laptop without closing it.

Code: Select all

My laptop was locking up if Suspend, or Hibernate, or Sleep is invoked.

I just simply had to change the Power Settings to NEVER on everything.
I have not had any lock ups since.

Close the lid, and the display turns off, open the lid, display turns on and go to work.

End of day, I use ALT-Print R E I S U O
to make it shut down, I hate that damned keyright popping up.... when it does, it takes 3 minutes for the laptop to shutdown.

REISUO does the job in 15 seconds, and has never caused any problems.

Sometimes, I just use Control-Alt-T and bring up terminal, then type

Code: Select all

shutdown 0
wham, it goes to shuts off.

Changed my mind! Because now if I close my laptop and forget to come back to it for a while, the battery is dead (since it's not turning off). Which means I basically have to shut it down every time anyway.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix the suspend problem?
