Moem,
Thanks for showing me a very well-written article on upgrading Linux Mint to 18.3. For some strange reason I don't see " Upgrade to Linux Mint 18.3 " at the bottom of the Edit pull-down menu after I open the Update Manager. It's missing from both of my LM18.2 systems. Nonetheless, I consider the timeshift application mentioned in the article an excellent feature.

Re: Upgrade from LM18.2 to LM18.3
It could be the settings in the Update Manager. Let the Update Manager show you all levels from 1 to 5.
You should also see a newer kernel version - 4.8.0.58
Heavy stuff for the little Atom®

absque fenestris,
Thanks for your pointer. Update Manager's Level pull-down menu includes only 1 level and the contents are reproduced below.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Type | Level | Upgrade | Name | New version
--------------------------------------------------------------------
down arrow | 1 | x | mintupdate | 5.2.9.2
down arrow | 1 | x | mint-upgrade-info | 1.1.1

Re: Upgrade from LM18.2 to LM18.3
Because of a misunderstanding I also made the jump to Kernel 4.13.
No problems.
Then I installed all Level 4 and 5 updates. Still no problems.
Linux Mint and the often abused Atom® seems to work very well on their 32 bits...

absque fenetris,
I don't quite fully grasp your latest post. Can you elaborate further? Thanks.

Re: Upgrade from LM18.2 to LM18.3
You should install those two updates, because as long as you don't, you will not get other updates. And once you've done that, the upgrade path to 18.3 will be offered.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Moem and absque fenetris,
Thanks very much. My problem was caused by my overlooking the 'Install Updates' option. Now I've my system upgraded to LM18.3.
It's so much simpler and better than installing LlM18.3 from scratch. The beautiful thing is that timeshift automatically keeps my old LM18.2 intact.
