After a bit more than a month of not using my Mint install, today I did an sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade.
After that my wifi has been dropping randomly and i cannot connect unless i restart my PC.
Wifi will just randomly disconnect, if i try to view all possible connections only my wifi shows up in the list, if i click it, it tries to connect, strength percentage drops to 0% and it will not connect, after a while it says its unavailable and my PCs wifi key light turns orange, as if i had clicked the key, and i cannot turn it back on.
this last time it happened, i was going to try to restart the service via terminal, how ever the terminal would not open, neither via the menu, or with crtl+alt+t. I restarted the PC and it still wont open. I tried running gnome-terminal via XTerm and got this.

1. Never update like that. You bypass the protective level system of Update Manager.

2. The inxi output is weird: you should have gotten a far newer kernel because of dist-upgrade. Something is very wrong with your system. Consider a clean re-installation or even a clean installation of the bèta of Mint 19.

I'd consider reinstalling too, but not Mint 19 until it becomes stable and officially released ... a 2014 machine shouldn't need bleeding edge kernel drivers.

As mentioned, never use apt-get upgrade or apt-get dist-upgrade in Mint. It's Ubuntu based but it's not Ubuntu. You'll end up pulling in things at some point from the Ubuntu repos that shouldn't be on a Mint system. These sorts of problems are quite hard to fix and sometimes a clean reinstall is the fastest and easiest way.

You have posted this statement on several occasions. Yet, the fact is that this statement is simply not correct.
Please, cf. here: what "man" tells about "apt-get upgrade" and "apt-get dist-upgrade".
Ubuntu and Linux Mint use exactly the same APT software management system, the one that comes with Ubuntu.

went ahead and downloaded the iso and installed without deleting my /home.
inxi -Fxz now returns

I was surprised to see that all my files where ready to use upon install. screenfetch says i have 2228 packages. isn’t this a little high?
also, when i open the terminal i get this message
