Linux Mint uses systemd init beginning with 18 Sarah release and going forward.
If you have reservations regarding this check out Devuan

SysD init on DW
Is "SysD init" systemd, SysVinit or something else?

What is "DW"?

DistroWatch does indeed list Linux Mint as not using systemd:

Looks like a mistake to me.

I played around with their search facility. Mint shows up under "not systemd", "systemd", and "SysV. "

Haven't followed LMDE or what version of Debian it's based on - does it still use SysV?

Well, looking at my /boot/grub/grub.cfg file, I see that in addition to the standard menu entry for LM18.3, there is another one for LM18.3 with "Linux 4.4.0-128-generic (upstart)", so it seems that using Upstart is still an option on LM18.3.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they ain't.

Well, that's a clue as to how useful distrowatch is  ... I just use it for the reviews.

Whatever reservations you may have about systemd, it's the only Linux init system that's properly maintained. WHich is why everyone's switching to it.

Mint 17 uses upstart init and Mint 18 /19 use systemd. DW's data is outdated.
If you want good solid systemd free distro I would suggest MX-17.
(Thanks for the correction rene)
