Hello,
Anybody else notice this ? - on my desktop running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon, Firefox always seems to be struggling and slow whereas Vivaldi seems to run much much better.
Have almost abandoned firefox because of this.
Am running latest versions of each package installed sometime in the last 3 weeks

Re: Firefox struggling but Vivaldi is fine
if you mean slow at "launching", yeah, firefox launches slower than my other browsers, by millisecs , i don’t mind that
apart from launching performance seems great to me, goes without saying that add-ons can affect both launching speed & overall performance
I think firefox always becomes slower after using it for a long time, maybe try using it with a fresh profile:
Good luck

Code: Select all
firefox --ProfileManager

If snowflake's advice doesn't work,bill_steamshovel wrote: ⤴Mon Sep 03, 2018 3:50 am Anybody else notice this ? - on my desktop running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon, Firefox always seems to be struggling and slow whereas Vivaldi seems to run much much better.

Edit: also try deleting:
rm -r ~/.cache/mozilla
. It won't hurt anything.you might consider abandoning Cinnamon; in these forums it's associated with a slew of similar ("slowness") problems which never or rarely seem to crop up with other desktops.

I've never had that happen.I think firefox always becomes slower after using it for a long time, maybe try using it with a fresh profile:
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!

Re: Firefox struggling but Vivaldi is fine
Firefox was slow at starting and slow doing things after it had started.
Snowflakes tip worked well - its running just as fast as Vivaldi now that I set up a new profile.
Thanks for the tips
