Kernel 4.19.1 is out
Kernel series 4.19 is out now and it is LTS. Does it mean that it will be maintained for 6 years, as I had read that now the LTS period is 6 years.

Re: Kernel 4.19.1 is out
4.19.1 isn't out yet, only 4.19. And end of support for that one hasn't been announced yet. LTS kernels used to have 6 years but it was shortened to little over 2 years for 4.14 so remains to be seen what will become of 4.19.
Also for anybody wondering: This is about kernel.org LTS kernels, completely unrelated to Ubuntu LTS kernels that appear in your Update Manager.

Support for mainline kernels was added to the Update Manager. Thanks to “gm10” for implementing this.

Yeah but that support doesn't include installing them, only removing. Maybe I should ask Clem to reword that, you're not the first to misunderstand.catweazel wrote: ⤴Wed Oct 31, 2018 2:53 amSupport for mainline kernels was added to the Update Manager. Thanks to “gm10” for implementing this.

I don't think it would be advisable to let the Mint population at large install unsupported mainline kernels via Update Manager.

Just to scare you more since it's Halloween: (yes, this works, but no, I never put this into any pull request nor am I planning to)

The LTS kernel policy looks inconsistent, sometimes the support period is 2 years and other times it's 6 yearsgm10 wrote: ⤴Tue Oct 30, 2018 3:16 pm 4.19.1 isn't out yet, only 4.19. Plus Google moving to Fuschia may change this in the future I guess.

Re: Kernel 4.19.1 is out
Yes it works but I could never get the rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux drivers to compile. Even tried 4.19.9 and still did not work so I stuck with 4.18.7 and everything is working fine. As many have said, If it ain't broke don't mess with it.
