Does Mint get slower over the years?

Windows does get slower, I am not eager to know why as I don't use it.
Does Mint Linux system grow slower over the years?If say what may be the reasons.

If you let old kernel's accumulate updates will take longer to apply. If you allow your file system to fill up in general performance will suffer. Bulging browser caches may be worth clearing every so often. Other than that any slowdown will be negligible, as long as you keep your internals free of fluff and lint so you don't get processor overheating issues causing premature throttling.

As a Mint user who tends towards using the current version by default I'd be fresh installing every 2 years or so anyway.

Windows slows down because of registry bloat, inability of many windows programs to cleanly uninstall and disk-fragmentation. i'm sure this is less of a problem under Win 10 that it used to be.

Linux will get slower if your disk or /home partition (I use the latter) gets too full up but it's not like WIndows.

That may depend on hardware - but my in every way cheap computer runs better than ever with Mint 18.3 and Kernel 4.15.0.29.

No comparison to the original Windows 7 Home for the silly ones - and significantly better than with Mint 18.0 and Kernel 4.4.x which I had originally loaded.

That means better performance than 2 years ago. Speaks somehow for Linux...

Meaning if the partitions aren't full Mint isn't slowed down.
What I meant to ask is if the number of applications is increased, still Mint will run fine. I take care not to get the Mint partitions full.

It will. Applications that are installed but not running do not slow your OS down.
