*Really* laggy system - diagnostics

Post by JLC17 »

Here's my system specs ...

Generally I run Firefox, with about 10 tabs open at any one time. Plus Evolution for email/calendar.

Every so often - and it's getting worse - the system will jam up for over 5 minutes. When I say "jam up" I mean the clock doesn't update (I have photographs of my phone today showing 15:21 while the PC says 15:16) and the Caps lock/Num Lock don't toggle.

When it emerges from this coma, "top" shows Firefox or "Web Content" as being biggest CPU hogs.

Is there anything I can setup to log these events, and dig in to see confused is stealing all my resources ? Whatever it is, it's getting more priority than the screen clock.

Is Timeshift running?

Code: Select all

(ps -ef|grep -v grep|grep timeshift >/dev/null && echo ”running” || echo ”not running”)

No. I fiddled around ages ago to ensure Timeshift only ran at night. I can't remember exactly how (it wasn't intuitive).

Just run your command, and it returned "Not Running".
