Ubuntu 10 year support vs. Linux Mint 19

Post by tdockery97 » Wed Nov 21, 2018 2:43 am

Just curious what impact, if any, Ubuntu's announcement of 10 years support for Ubuntu 18.04 will have on support time for Linux Mint 19. Any thoughts from Clem or the other developers?

Ubuntu's announcement was made in the context of their (paid) enterprise support options, so that's likely what it's about. They were already supporting for 8 years based on that. But nobody will know for sure until they provide some details to go along with that announcement. Even if it was for free, you are very unlikely to see Mint be supported for 10 years.

It's definitely aimed at the Ubuntu Server market, not the desktop. I'd be very surprised if Mint ever did this. Servers are a lot more conservative.
