#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf(5) manual page.
# (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#

# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

So, you're saying that the laptop screen will do 1024x768, but it's only showing options for 800x600, and 640x480, right?

Or, is your laptop currently showing 1024x768, but doesn't show it in options?

Since you have an ATI card, but (from what I can see) haven't installed all the right stuff, you may want to become root and apt-get install these packages:

xserver-xorg-video-ati

fglrx-control

xorg-driver-fglrx

linux-restricted-modules-(Kernel Version)-(arch.)
.

Then,

Code: Select all

aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf

Code: Select all

aticonfig --resolution=0,1024x768

And then, you'd probably just have to kill X/reboot to get the resolution right.

It completely feraked out, i restarted then i couldnt get into x anymore so i used sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, i ran thru the wizard that launched by just clicking enter, rebooted.

And then i was able too select and use the proper resolution, Thank you for your help redjack!
