[SOLVED] Nemo: preview icon for files larger than 32Gb?

Post by Ademeion » Tue Apr 16, 2019 6:13 am

In settings of the Nemo file manager the upper size limit for preview icons is 32Gb. I wonder if anyone knows a workaround for this. I have a few video files larger than that, and it doesn't look nice to have the preview icon missing from them while other files have the preview icon. Is there perhaps a "secret" settings file that can be edited to raise the upper limit? I wasn't able to find the answer by duckduckgoing for quite a while.

In a terminal window:

Code: Select all

gsettings set org.nemo.preferences thumbnail-limit 18446744073709551615
I don't know if the process generating the thumbnails has any size limitations.

Thanks gm10, your terminal command worked. My video collection looks very nice now in Nemo :). I'm sorry for not replying earlier. I only noticed your reply a moment ago.

I hope Nemo developers will make this setting available in Nemo preview settings. More and more people are going to experience the 32GB thumbnail size limit, as video files keep getting bigger.

You are welcome. If you edit your original post's subject line to add [SOLVED] you may help others find the solution, too. :)

And I agree, I have a great dislike for "hidden" settings. If you make it configurable, you should expose the setting in the UI.
