Signature

Post by Peter Linu » Tue Aug 20, 2019 8:29 am

Hiyall,
If one looks at my signature, one sees that everything after 'Current' is bold. I've tried everything I know to return it to normal without success.
I guess this is an Admin issue.

Hello, Peter Linu.

No, this is not an admin issue. This is a matter of going to your forum profile signature by clicking on this link: User Profile - Signature
There check that the [b] (bold tag), which initiates the bold font, is matched by a [/b] tag, which ends the bold font.

HTH,
Karl

I have removed at the start and [-b] at the finish but it persists.

Hi, Peter Linu.

The bbcode [b] switches bold font on. Bold font will remain on till the bbcode [/b] is encountered.

So right before the text Current project: 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD there must be a [b].
Either the closing [/b] is located at the end of the text after "HDD" or it is missing completely.
  • [b]Current project: 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD[/b] yields:
    Current project: 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD
    .
  • [b]Current project:[/b] 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD yields:
    Current project: 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD
    .
  • [b]Current project: [color=#00BF00]19.2 Cinnamon+Win7[/color][/b] Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD yields:
    Current project: 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD
    .
  • [b]Current project[/b]: [color=#00BF00]19.2 Cinnamon+Win7[/color] Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD yields:
    Current project: 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD
    .
  • Current project: [b][color=#00BF00]19.2 Cinnamon+Win7[/color][/b] Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD yields:
    Current project: 19.2 Cinnamon+Win7 Thinkpad T440p i7-4712 16Gb RAM, 1Tb SSD, 2Tb HDD
Check again, please.

Reason: Note: changed all bbcode tags to use lowercase letters only. Else the signature editor does not seem to understand them.

Hi Karlchen,
Thanks for the starter help.
I tried all of your suggestions but sadly none would work. When I made [b] lower case, I had SUCCESS!

I wouldn't worry too much. Nobody reads signatures to get system information.

Oops. Inside the forum editor the bbcodes are not case sensitive.
I.e. [B] .. [/B] and [b] .. [/b] will work.
The same is true for other bbcodes like [I] .. [/I] and [i] .. [/i].
I had not noticed (or forgotten again) that the signature editor might behave differently and understand bbcodes only provided the letters are lower-case.

Glad you figured it out in the end. :) Hopefully I will remember next time when someone asks why formatting a signature does not seem to work.

By the way, clicking on the appropriate bbcode icons on top of the editor window will insert bbcodes using lowercase letters only. There might be a reason.
