Hidden hard drive? [SOLVED]

Post by Offcenter » Sun Aug 25, 2019 7:08 pm

Hey gang, I have a Lenova Think Station P300 that currently has Win10 on it.
Inside is a 1 terabyte hard drive (with Win10 on it) and a 180 gig SSD. (solid state drive)
If I access the Bios Setup menu, there is the SSD, set as boot option
number one.
If I access the control panel in Win10, there is the SSD, along with
it's partition sizes etc.
But there is NO WAY that I can access this drive. It does NOT show
up in the Win10 file manager. I can't even format it, since it does
not show up in any menu!
So....
I booted the machine from my Mint 19.1 CDROM, thinking that
Mint would find the drive.
Under Mint, there is no trace of that drive anywhere, not in the file manager,
not in the control panel, no place! It's like it isn't even there.
What the hey??
Like I said, it is clearly there in the Bios setup menu, and in Win10's
control panel.
I'd like to install Mint on that SSD drive, but how can I do it if it doesn't even
show up?
Thanks guys. Appreciate any suggestions.

.
It might help the forum participants with more information.
Boot up the live and get to a terminal session then run the following commands:

Code: Select all

lsblk -S -o+size
lsblk -o name,size,label,fstype,mountpoint
sudo lshw -short
Please post the output from the commands.

SOLVED!
It turned out that the SSD drive had never been assigned a drive letter under Win10.
So I assigned it a letter and ZINGO! There it was.
And it was empty, never used. Can't imagine why someone did that.
(the computer came to me used from a business)
Anyway, I then put the Mint disk in and clicked INSTALL, and Mint 19.1 installed
to the SSD with no problem.
Weird, but working fine!
