Post by Rolling Hand » Wed Sep 04, 2019 2:25 pm

This as probably already been covered but I can't find it. Anyways I can't get my video clips to show as a thumbnail image...I connected an external drive
with some stuff on but they won't show up...any ideas?

Thanx;

Somewhere in the file manager preferences there will probably be a setting for thumbnails which is set to "Local files only" and probably for files up to a particular size, but it will depend on the DE you use and which file-manager so I will leave you to search further.

Local files will mean only files on the same filesystem, I think, so an external drive will not be local.

Nope, can't find it, it's kinda strange why it's so hard to find in the settings whereas in Windows it's an automatic feature.
It's a real pain when you have 100's of clips with similar descriptions under them.

Open Nemo (the file manager), go up top to Edit, then Preferences, then to Preview. Where it says SHow Thumbnails, by default it's set to Local Files only, meaning files on your Mint install. Your external drive, etc, isn't that. To see thumbnails on it as well, switch it to Yes to see thumbnails on all drives/places. Enjoy
