Accessing OneDrive folder on NTFS partition

Post by shmu »

I have dual boot with Windows. On Windows I use OneDrive, and all the files are downloaded, they are not just placemarks. But from Mint I cannot access them.
OneDrive storage is not on C: drive in Windows, it is on a second hard disk.
It looks like this in Nemo:

I booted into Windows just to make sure: "download files on demand" is unticked, and I exited Windows properly so it won't leave shared spaces in a dirty state. I can properly access other files and folders on the same NTFS partition that holds the OneDrive directory.

I cannot access them.
You will need to define what that means. There are no mind readers here AFAIK.

No mindreaders, okay. But no screenshot readers? There are plenty!
Please look at my screenshot and I think it is fairly self-explanatory.
When I launch Nemo and navigate to the OneDrive folder, the contents cannot be viewed. There are only shortcuts, and clicking on them doesn't do anything.

How about, in a terminal...

Code: Select all

ls -lF /path/to/onedrive
and maybe even

Code: Select all

file /path/to/onedrive/Att*

Thanks. So it's a known issue, without any easy fixes.

The problem is mainly with files and folders that were already on the disk. So the workaround is to delete the local onedrive folder, then start up OneDrive from within Windows, it complains that it can't find the folder, and then you relink the account and let it create a new folder for itself and download everything all over again. Then the files are at least accessible, but might not be modifiable. (You need to untick the option in OneDrive for "save space and download on demand.")

A couple years ago, I downloaded a little linux program that someone built, it solves this whole OneDrive problem, but I can't find it anymore. You need to download the source code and build it yourself, but it was pretty straightforward.

Hi @shmu, I'm looking for that little linux tool that you are referring to here. Would you be able to take another look at it and try to find it please? Thank you!
