Linux mint server keeps freezing and how can i access logs?

Post by evli_goat »

I have mint running on a minnowboard, (a small single-board computer kind of like the raspberry pi except its x86_64) and it sometimes just disconnects from the internet, and I can not access it via ssh or the web servers running on it. To fix it I reboot. This happens again after about an hour, and sometimes it happens right after I boot it. I thought it was an internet problem, so I wrote a script that turns led lights off and on alternatingly to see if the system was working. It happened again, but one of the lights was on frozen, and not blinking. Thus meaning that the system is somehow frozen. How can I fix this, and where can I find logs to point out a problem?

Check your disk https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Smartmontools
Check memory from grub with memtest

Which DE do you use? Xfce would be a good choice.

Apart from your machine being very much under-powered and under-resourced for running modern operating systems, your free root space won't help. You should find out what is consuming all that space. It could be log files, old kernels, leftovers from old software and so on.

To do that, run this in a terminal: sudo du -h / | grep -P '^[0-9\.]+G'
It's pronounced kad-eye-cha, not kada-itcha.

It will be better. It doesn't have any gui though, everything should be managed by terminal. It comes with built in LAMP stack.
