disable touchpad
I'm a very old fogie amateur using an otherwise lovely Dell Inspiron 3793 laptop.
I don't do much typing but when composing the occasional email I'm driven mad by the cursor suddenly jumping such that I find myself on a different part of the page, presumably because I've accidentally brushed the touch pad.
I've Googled for a method of disabling the touchpad but the solution seems to be aimed at Windows users.
I'm happily using Mint Mate 20.1.
Could anyone help me with this?

Re: disable touchpad
Hi wolseley2
The System Settings are the very first thing that ends up in my favorites bar. I find it more practical than navigating in the Preferences.
So I sometimes forget where the System Settings are actually ... ah yes - in the Preferences
... and in MATE or Xfce the System Settings are visible in a prominent place anyway.
Re: disable touchpad
Oh dear, I simply can not find the facility that you show.
I can see Qt5 Configuration Tool or KDE System Settings but nothing to give control of the touchpad which your pic. shows.
I'm using Linux Mint 20.1 Ulyssa 64-bit and it's up to date.
So, I'm completely stumped! Your illustration would seem to be exactly what I'm looking for but I can't find it.

Re: disable touchpad
I don't worry about where things are,
I just click menu, or touch the WindowsKey and start typing the name of what I want.
it shows up immediately

Re: disable touchpad
However, when I investigate Preferences, at your suggestion, I see now a box where I can apparently disable touchpad ---- and that seems to have down the trick!
Many, many thanks.

Re: disable touchpad
I have to say that I have never come across the System Settings that you show here! It's obviously way above my pay grade as they say, but I can't find such a display in my version of Mate 20.1.
But no matter, at 85 I can no longer comprehend too much complication! In Preferences I found 'Mouse' and then unticked 'Enable touchpad' and that gave me the result I wanted. I'm impressed by your expertise. Many thanks again.

Re: disable touchpad
It's called Control Center - don't ask me why ...and now it is also clear why we have talked past each other. The specification of the desktop makes sense.wolseley2 wrote: ⤴Wed Mar 31, 2021 3:46 pm I have to say that I have never come across the System Settings that you show here! Re: disable touchpad
Hi wolseley2
Now that it's clear that you are using the MATE desktop, I have now looked in my virtual MATE ...
The result is sobering - there is absolutely nothing to adjust the touchpad in the Control Center.
The only thing I found are settings that can be managed with the dconfig-editor.
Look in org / gnome / desktop / peripherals / touchpad - there you will find some setting options.

Re: disable touchpad
Yeah, all of that help comes from Cinnamon users.
In MATE it's
Control Center > Hardware > Mouse > Touchpad
or All Applications > Mouse > Touchpad

Not so interesting at all as,absque fenestris wrote: ⤴Mon Apr 05, 2021 8:02 am
There is no "Touchpad" setting in the Control Center, in the Preferences or in Applications All.
You are absolutely correct.
My bad, and apologies, I was looking at mint 20.0 MATE.
So I just booted a 20.1 iso in VB, and as you said "sobering". It's just like your quote "No Touchpad" anywhere,The more things change, the more things SUCK.
What's funny (or not) is woseley2 said,
Which he must be mistaken ?
I certainly won't be upgrading to 20.1. (I hate touch pad)
Why would such a basic functionality be removed ? Oversight ?
I do think this needs to be rectified. and before 20.2
Thanks BTW.
