Home folder suddenly encrypted/unaccessible during runtime

Post by metaleo »

Hello there!

Since yesterday I've noticed this very weird behavior, where my home folder suddenly gets encrypted during runtime (and thus causing all weird side effects and makes my computer unusable), and the only files visible in my home folder are the Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop and README.txt.

It sometimes happens some minutes after boot, sometimes after several hours. A reboot does fix the problem temporarily, until it happens again.

(I had enabled home folder encryption at installation when I installed it a few months ago, but never had my home folder suddenly get encrypted at runtime).

I could not make out any specific trigger as to when/why it happens - it's always in the midst of using my system regularly, and could not make out any telling message in /var/log/syslog.
I had tried to reset my system via Timeshift to the state of 1st of April, but it did not resolve the problem, so I'm out of ideas now.

Any ideas on how to debug this further? (Any specific logs I could try to read?)

Thank you!
