Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
I'm on Mint 19.3 Cinnamon (cinnamon v 4.4.. Ctrl+I as a shortcut for italics has not not working for me across all programme that has the capability to format fonts (i.e. libreoffice, office365 online, gimp, etc).
1) I have checked the keyboard binding on Keyboard System settings and this combination has not been used by anything on that list.
2) i have checked similar threads here and could confirm that solutions for both are irrelevant.
on viewtopic.php?f=90&t=183392&p=958990&hi ... ut#p958990, screensaver inhibitor applet is a culprit, but i have not installed this.
on viewtopic.php?f=90&t=183392&p=958990&hi ... ut#p958990 - totally different issue.
This issue is getting more and more frustrating as I'm working from home 100%. I normally used (past tense for now) this workstation for media production, and font formatting is not a major issue. Now I'm dealing more with document, and dont want to grab the mouse all the time.
Help please. How can I identify what apps/ applet/ etc is using this shortcut key?
Thanks

Re: Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
This is off-topic but I noticed in your repos that you are using evowise. They have shut down the LM repositories so you'll need to change that in Software Sources.
If you have found the solution to your initial post, please open your original post, click on the pencil, and add (Solved) to the Subject, it helps other users looking for help, and keeps the forum clean.

Re: Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
Has it ever worked? Then possibly stopped after an install or an update?
Does CTRL+B work? (Bold)
Could it be a problem with fonts? Have you tried different fonts?
If you create another user, does it work with that user?

Re: Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
Probably not worked since install. I really hadn't noticed much.gittiest personITW wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 23, 2021 10:27 am Has it ever worked? Then possibly stopped after an install or an update?
Other common formatting shortcuts work fine (ctrl+B, ctrl+U, ctrl+R, etc).Does CTRL+B work? (Bold)
All fonts yield the same result.Could it be a problem with fonts? Have you tried different fonts?
YES! Ctrl+I actually works with a different user.If you create another user, does it work with that user?
Now, what is the next step you might recommend? thanks

Re: Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
Its likely fixable then but you might have to spend some more time looking through the settings/key bindings/applets/programs/keyboard shortcut settings unless you can wait a bit and see if you get a more satisfactory reply from someone else with better ideas .YES! Ctrl+I actually works with a different user.
I would start with applets though and go from there.
Post back if you do find it.
If not, it might be worth considering, if you have the space, transferring all your stuff over to the new User (you'll likely have to 'chown' some files because of permissions etc) and in a few weeks when you are satisfied you don't need any settings/configs etc from the old one, delete the old account.
Make sure your new User is a member of admin group though before doing this.
Most of the user configs for software are in the hidden folders in your /home/user or /home/user/.configs folders.
If you are looking for and can't find specific ones, then post back.
If copying config files, then test the ctrl+i every so often and make Timeshift snapshots every few configurations/apps you change.

Thanks. The evowise repo is now removed.Larry78723 wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 23, 2021 8:28 am This is off-topic but I noticed in your repos that you are using evowise. They have shut down the LM repositories so you'll need to change that in Software Sources.

I'm quite certain i've been thorough with those, but yeah, will check again this weekend.gittiest personITW wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 23, 2021 12:16 pmIts likely fixable then but you might have to spend some more time looking through the settings/key bindings/applets/programs/keyboard shortcut settings unless you can wait a bit and see if you get a more satisfactory reply from someone else with better ideas .YES! That'd be tough. Upgrading to Mint 20 might be more likely for me than moving everything to a new user - could that work?gittiest personITW wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 23, 2021 12:16 pmIf not, it might be worth considering, if you have the space, transferring all your stuff over to the new User (you'll likely have to 'chown' some files because of permissions etc) and in a few weeks when you are satisfied you don't need any settings/configs etc from the old one, delete the old account.YES! Re: Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
You've got quite a lot of software and ppa's etc.
I think you'd be better off with a new installation.
At least if there is a problem it would be easier to trace in the future.

Re: Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
I do not use cinnamon, but assuming the keyboard configuration is somewhere in your home filesystem, eg in ~/.config, you may be able to remove that file in order to get back to some form of default configuration, thereby getting back the Ctrl+I shortcut.
Re: Crtl+I shortcut for italics not working
Interesting. This got me to look up dconf, and I found one possible culprit. see picture below
Any advise on how to edit these keys?

Interesting problem. I have LM 19.3 Cin 4.4.8 but with the 5.4 kernel. My Ctrl-I works. Where do you go after media-keys to see that screen you posted?
