Freezes and has to be rebooted

Post by BENTECH22 »

Hello all. I am brand new here, and I found a similar question, very similar, but I did not know if I could just add my question under it, or as a post along with it, so I will go this route, and apologize if it was not the correct choice.

Initially I suspected that this had something to do with a 4TB drive I have installed to store digital video and the system possibly losing connection with it.
I am not totally grasping the mount point process and ownership, etc. When I first installed the drive it would not mount automatically and I believe the program did not have permission to write to it. I currently have it as /mnt/R, but I'm not sure if this is the optimal way to do it. I'm actually very sure that it is not. I'll also paste some logs from the system.

One thing to consider here is that there is a possibility that the 4TB hdd was used in an NVR in the past and it may have a feature turned on to go to sleep. I do not know this for a fact, I just experienced that problem in two other drives I've tried to re-purpose. This drive however seems to be more accessible.
Any help, like all others on here, would be appreciated greatly by myself. I've researched some network configuration settings on this machine and I believe I have a handle on it, but currently I have it connected at my home and it is not recording cameras. When it is in the location to record cameras I could not get it to reach the internet, even though I could ping the router and everything seemed ok. Here at my home it connects easily. I'm not sure if this is a contributing factor to the machine hanging. I will keep a close eye on it after taking it back to the business.

Welcome to the forum, BENTECH22.

You made the correct choice because there can be many different causes for freeze issues and it is less confusing for those helping to help one person per topic.

Call Traces usually happen after the problem and happen because of the problem. I do not know what happened before this line,

Code: Select all

01:22:05 kernel: watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 23s! [kswapd0:127]
but the responses in this link watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#6 stuck for 23s indicate possible swap issues.

What are the outputs of free and ls -l /swapfile?

Your inxi does not indicate your system has a swap partition so I am assuming you used the default swapfile created by Linux Mint. Let us know if that is not correct.
