Yes, since you don't use them. I suspect they are both 32 bit programs, dmesg does not register anything.

dmesg does not usually have error messages from applications (unless it is a really big problem), but usually the apps themselves do post log information somewhere in their own directories. That is what I meant by checking error messages.

Maybe WINE and Steam do not do that (create logs), but I do not have any other ideas. Sorry.

I have upgraded to Linux Mint 21 and it seems that 5.15 is the minimum kernel that allows, and it also happens with wine mostly.

The 5.15 kernel is the LTS (long-term-support) kernel for Ubuntu 22.04 (Mint 21), so it is the minimum kernel.

Issues with WINE are usually posted in the Software & Applications section of the forum, or, if it relates to games, the issue might be posted in the Gaming section of the forum. You might want to check there to see if anyone else has run into that sort of issue.

This post and the subsequent ones mention a few users' experiences with WINE on LM21, but I do not know if what they mention relates to your issue. (That is an announcement topic and not a problem-solving topic.)

Re: Kernel from 5.14 to 5.18.15 freezes for a moment the mouse with Nvidia 2060 mobile and wine when launching program

Post by Jeronimo17 »

As I updated the first post, it is not with game, it seems that the problem is with Nvidia prime performance mode and just from 5.13.19 (No problem) that goes to 5.14 (I tested it) to run wine (32 bit?)

If you think it is better to move it to another part of the forum, you can move it

What version of WINE do you have installed and how did you install it? (I think there is more than one way to install it?)

Well Wine from the official repositories, I think it was the 6 and also the 7, the last official stable. But I doubt that Wine is the real problem.

None of the kernels you listed for each of those videos are Linux Mint kernels. They all appear to be mainline kernels.

I do not see "freezing" in any of those. What I see in some of them is the mouse is not showing its transitions from one location to another. It is jumping from one location to the next.

I do not know if there might have been any changes to the driver for your mouse in those kernels. I do know people have run into issues related to fractional scaling and mice transitions.

Have you tried adjusting mouse settings with newer kernels to see if it makes a difference? I do not know how detailed the options are for Xfce.

What is the output of xinput?

Sorry, I played a video while running and it's not a mouse problem, it's the whole screen that freezes for a few seconds, the video too.

Edit: I don't notice any difference between activating or deactivating it, after a 2nd or 3rd try Wine doesn't say that error but it still freezes without the error.

So you are verifying it is a problem related to WINE. If WINE is disabling performance then it makes you would have issues. The i915 driver is the Intel graphics driver.

I do not know how WINE works to be able to help you with this issue. Maybe someone else will be able to help.

It could be but Steam does not use wine in principle without running any game I think and also happens, it is less noticeable but the first time I run it was much more noticeable.

I've never used Steam so I do not know what I'm looking at in your last video.

Steam and WINE (and Proton) are all software layers on top of the operating system. They each have their own requirements in addition to any requirements a game might have.

The Linux kernel is designed to work with the operating system. If there is a problem related to a kernel, then the problem will manifest in the operating system even if you are not running applications you installed (such as WINE or Steam).

In this last video it is barely noticeable in Steam, it is much more noticeable in Wine.

The sound does not stop, but if it was a bug in Wine or Steam it would also happen with older kernels and I do not think that a bug in them should be able to block the image for a few seconds.

It is an annoying bug that was not there before, I don't know if it is the Nvidia driver with the new Kernel and I don't know if it is because of the 32 bit Steam/Wine.

Can you move my post to Graphics Cards & Monitors? I think it is more correct there.

I do not know if this topic Mint 21 and Wine might have any relevance to your issue or if participating in it might be helpful for you.

I would say that it does not correspond to my problem, I have tried Firefox 32 bit and the problem does not occur, I do not know what it could be.
