Well, I finally caught up with the times and got a nice LCD HDTV. Of course the first thought in my mind was streaming video from my laptop to the TV. I bought an HDMI cable the same time I got the TV with this in mind. I'm running Mint 12 with ATI Radeon HD4200 graphics. I hooked it up and I get an awesome picture on the TV, but no sound. Has anyone with similar ATI graphics found a way to get sound along with the video on the TV? I've googled and found a few suggestions, but so far none have succeeded.
EDIT: I've come to the conclusion that HDMI to TV is not possible in Linux with my ATI graphics, so I guess I'll just have to boot into Windows 7 if I want to stream video to my HDTV.

Re: HDMI to HDTV
I have same graphic card HD 4200 but its radeon mobilitiy on my acer, and unfortenently I dont have any video signal from HDMI when I connect my TV on it.
If I remove proprierity drivers I got video signal but with much more gpu temp.
For me sound goes throw headphones jack to my stereo
Does anyone have a sollution for that?
P.S. My TV is not HDTV and it have DVI connector for PC <but work well on open source drivers.

Not true. I was running UBUNTU Lucid Lynx with my ATI drivers and could port streaming vids from my PC to my HDTV with a HDMI cable. No problem. I just set my sound output to HDMI and I was running both video and audio on my TV. However, I have just come back to MINT and have installed MINT 12. I can get video on my TV, but no audio. I have tried all the sound settings, but no luck. I can play audio through my PC speakers, but that is no joy. So, I am also looking for a solution to this problem as well.

Re: HDMI to HDTV
Don't know if this is a Mint 12 issue but for what it's worth, I watch streaming TV into a Toshiba LCD HDTV (HDMI) with Mint 9 and I do have audio.
Re: HDMI to HDTV
Hi All,
I have found a solution that works for me using a source for ATI/AMD drivers. I had two problems. I could not port sound to my HDTV and my screen turned into a mess. It seems the ATI/AMD drivers provided by Mint 12 often lead to distortions of my Notebook display. I have HP COMPAQ Presario DV7.
Well, on the 5th install of Mint 12, before I did any updates I followed the instructions http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/767here. Sorry for that sloppy link, but it does work. All my display and audio / video issues porting my PC to my HDTV were solved. The only other thing that I need to do was change the output setting in sound settings to HDMI.
I hope this helps.
PS I did install the latest UBUNTU along the way and have to say I was less than impressed and glad I chose to get back to Mint.
