If you don't have sound try this first HDA Intel ICH8 Family

Post by Wrinkliez » Sun Feb 10, 2008 11:09 am

I had tried almost everything to find that my sound worked when all I had to do was put in one little piece of code. sigh.

I had a intel ich8 rev3 onboard sound card and it wasn't working. Found this, just put in the code part (Cause I couldn't find software properties :D) put all my sound things on Auto-detect, rebooted, and my sound worked. Hopefully this helps some people.

This does not work with Elyssa and later - the right ALSA is already present

Husse is right.

You may also try this:
ALSA Upgrade Script
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

There are ALSA drivers and OSS4 drivers.

This is also PulseAudio, the master bug
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=32637

PulseAudio has nothing to do with drivers, it can be safely removed:

You can try ALSA drivers and OSS4 drivers and take those which you like more

it also seems with latest updates string 'option snd-hda-intel' is no longer recognised by alsa during the bootstrap, nontheless audio subsystem works without an issue.
