Hello

Postby BabyFart » Sun Mar 19, 2017 11:36 am

Hi,
Having retired after 17 years as a Microsod system engineer I wanted to play with Linux. Over the last 12 months I have tried Redhat, Scuse and several versions of Ubuntu. Each time I lost the will to live and uninstalled quite quickly and continued with windoze. Couple of weeks ago I picked up the march issue of Linux Format cause it had a dvd with the latest Ubuntu on it. I installed, again, and this time found I could change the desktop to something called Cinnamon.... Brilliant, I had found a home at last.
Two days later I bought the April edition of aforementioned magazine which had a copy of Mint. I wiped my windoze and went for broke. Installed Mint with the wonderful Cinnamon. A further two days on I'm here. Have copied all my stuff to the new install and am so far happy.
I have learned more about Linux in the last few days than in the last year with other Linux distributions, simply because, in my opinion, Cinnamon allows me to access everything I want so easily and is so intuative in use. May I say to whomever is involved in the production and development of Mint, well done and thank you.
So, I'm overjoyed with the GUI, now I need to get into the command line, OMG, what have I done?

And take your time to avoid disappointment.

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.

Maybe you can call some of your old work buddies and tell them to stop messing with what once was a perfectly fine operating system.

Anyways, warmest welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the forums!
Don't forget to edit your original post and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the Subject line if your problem has been fixed.
My main language is English. I speak very little Portuguese, and a whole lot of gibberish.

Click Menu, Internet, HexChat, and ask in the Chat channel. If I remember correctly, there is a bot that automatically responds to registration code requests.
