me likes mint

Hey, I'm a Brit and Linux newb.

Finally made the switch to a Linux-based , erm, distro? Actually, there's quite a bit to this. In between waiting for hardware to arrive and installs breaking, I've been looking at a new OS to run on my general rig... For a variety of reasons. I had planned to build a NAS for media storage and get that up and running but that's on the backburner for now.

I think the first thing which really got me interested wanting to move to a Linux-based OS was audio. I learned Windows did stuff to the audio output. Foobar was my audio software of choice on Windows and using it through Wine on Ubuntu it did sound different, but today I read something about it not being bit perfect. So I picked Guayadeque from a list and the difference is mindblowing. The audio was really messed up before. I actually can't believe how much so.

Honestly, I've really had enough of Windows 10 and hate Microsoft with a passion. I still have a reset install and that will be used for my gaming rig, but right now I only have one real gpu and a lot of old junk to dispose of.

Mint is pretty nice. Coming from Windows it's really cool and some stuff such as backups is just so quick and simple. Hmm I'm not sure how to change the refresh rate of my monitor though...

Welcome to the forums!

As for your refresh rate, try Control Center, Display. See if there's something to change that.

I have 19.1 Xfce and this is my Display window from Settings (Control Center):
