a hello another new Linux user

Post by Gamla_3D » Mon Aug 12, 2019 9:37 pm

hi - years ago I was here also - never had any issue, easy to find my way (all was/is nicely documented)
Now I am old and tired ((obliged to install a new mint version - my choise= 19.1 - cinnamon on a 2nd-hand laptop)) . all went fine until now..
As start time-out at value 10 is to fast for my condition = unhappy, 9 out of 10 I have to reboot to correct, to get access to other software OS
/ all due to my health issues + heavy medication treatments (sorry)
Kindly request = need (some) exact command-line(s) to=
- enter grub correct using terminal
- change= "grub_timeout=10" into "grub_timeout=0" ???

Did already a lot of adv search but personal impossible to get the .... in the correct context
I used line "cat /etc/default/grub" to get access into grub (already a positive result) but there I am stuck for to long .. and cannot find the exact commands (it all sounds stupid but this is the way how I try to survive at 5% of what I was a year ago)
Please be so kind to guide my in this simple issue = I never can promess when I wil back here but maybe today otherwise tomorrow
Kind regards to all -- enjoy every moment

Hello Gamla_3D,
Welcome to Linux Mint Forums.
I'm sure someone can help with your needs. But you should start a separate thread with question about your need.
Enjoy.

Hi Gamla_3D,

Welcome to the forums.

You can change the grub timeout in a terminal like this:

Code: Select all

xed admin:///etc/default/grub
It will ask for your password.
Then change grub_timeout= to a number more suitable.
afterwards in a terminal run:

Code: Select all

sudo update-grub
also will ask for password
You can also terminate the timeout countdown by pressing the space key when you see the grub screen,
Then select the wanted os and press enter.

Welcome from me too. Out of interest, as you say you were also here years ago, did you register on the Forum at the time? If so that login/username should still work.
