Hi everyone!
I'm trying to escape from W7, which is not so easy after more than 20 years of an intensive use of office sotware… But I remember why I rejected W10 six years ago: I didn't want it to send what it liked to ms. I guess (and have heard) it's still more or less opaque, so I'm determined to change, but I'll need your help!
Looking forward to reading from you.

Re: Escaping
Welcome! You'll find that all three desktop editions of Mint (Cinnamon, Mate and Xfce) are delightfully traditional. A Windows 7 user should feel right at home. Personally I switched to full-time Linux use during the heydays of Windows XP, back in 2006.
Even the default Office Suite (LibreOffice) thankfully still has a traditional toolbar instead of a bloody ribbon (although -if I'm not mistaking- it can be ribbonized should you feel like it).

Re: Escaping
There are linux alternatives to most win software, and if you have some that you really can't do without, you can always run win7 in a VM using virtualbox. That's what I do.

Re: Escaping
Hello Divi56, welcome to the forums. I am almost completely Windows free. I have a Win10 drive unplugged in my desktop, in case I get nostalgic? As already stated, the included word processor is all I use now. I have sent documents to family members and they have had no issues viewing or printing them with MSoffice.
