HELP NEEDED! USERS, PASSWORDS, HELP!

]Hi
I purchased a laptop off Facebook marketplace a lifetime ago and have recently tried to use it. The man told me it had a lot of space so would be good to store photos etc.

WHAT IS LINUX?

I have very little experience with computers and have never seen this program in my life. I need help.
There are files and places I cannot access as it requires a password but the computer doesn't require one on start up?
Any help would be appreciated

A Linux distribution is an operating system, similar to how Windows and macOS are operating systems (though Linux itself is not similar to Windows or macOS themselves).

Given the circumstances of where you got the laptop, "the man", and its current disposition, I would wipe the entire hard drive and install Linux Mint.

I'd agree with JoeFootball's suggestion of a clean install, but before doing so it might be worth posting up some info about the laptop here first. If it's really old and has a limited spec (RAM, CPU etc) you might need a light weight OS to suit.

Do you know what Linux OS is installed at the moment?

You might get some pointers from the forum members if you can provide more info first.
