Greetings from a Newbie

Hello Everyone,
I have come to this board seeking help, however before I am so brash as to simply post my problems I always feel a new community requires at least an introduction and a hello.
So Hello!
First a little snippet of information about myself, I am afraid I am a Sys Admin for a Windows environment (Boo hiss ) by trade with a little toe in the networking area (Cisco) and I can't see myself moving away any time soon (too many invested qualifications) but I do like to play with various OS(es) and have been trying to break into Linux for 4-5 years but never really spent enough time to learn it beyond installing a few applications and poking about in general.
I have two small children and great demands on my time so I don't get to spend hours like I used to when I was younger working things out from scratch and have learnt the value of asking for help when required. I tend to find myself knee deep in nappies not hobbies now
I am comfortable working from the CLI when it comes to windows power-shell and Cisco iOS but I have never gone beyond basic AD scripting and I maintain a pre existing core infrastructure Cisco routers and switches.
I have only used Linux as a core OS once previously and that was with wine installed. I am going back a good few years here so I could not tell you beyond 'Unbuntu' what distro it was I was using at the time.
I managed previously to get a working installation of Mint (Lisa or Maya I forget which) installed within a VM around the time I upgraded my PC.
All my VM's migrated across fine, except my Mint VM, and as I was not invested at that point I just deleted it and figured I would make a new one.
That was six months ago and after 6-7 attempts, many hours googling (sic - Is that the right spelling?) and a good time spent lurking these boards I decided to become a member and start asking questions.
I will post a new topic in the relevant thread once I am 100% sure it has not already been asked and answered.
That's it for now.
Thanks,
Jon
