New In Linux Mint

Hello Mints,
I am new to Linux Mint, formerly i was using Fedora & Ubuntu triple booting with Windows 7. Recently, I planned to move to "Only Linux" & I needed bit change too.
So moved to just set-up the Linux Mint 14 with Cinnamon in my machine.
Man, Mint is so freaking fast & easy-to-use than other distros I've tried. :)

I have been using Linux distros for regular surfing & simple day-to-day work. But now as I got admission in Engineering,i would like to learn programming languages & wanna develop some Applications compatible to Linux Mint & Ubuntu.
I don't know from where to start with - I am aiming for C at this moment.
I need guidance though, any help will be highly appreciated (Sorry for posting help in introduction section, I dunno where to ask for help)

And hey Thank you developers for such a nice distro ! :D

Welcome to Linux Mint :D C is a nice language, and suitable for development of Linux applications. Have a look at Geany (+ geany-plugins) which is a nice programmer's editor. But your Gedit text editor already has syntax highlighting for C. For programming graphical applications, you'd use Glade alongside these to design the GUI.

Both Gedit and Geany are nice, but I'd also recommend you have a look at Anjuta, which is a more complete IDE and is also used in example on the GNOME Developer Center: http://developer.gnome.org/. Here for example is a short tutorial, walking you through using Anjuta to write a very simple image viewer: http://developer.gnome.org/gnome-devel- ... wer.c.html.

All of the above can easily be installed through the Software Manager.
