Greetings and Salutations

Post by LordDingheadIII »

Though I wish to dual boot with Windows 7 for now, I have decided that I should have Linux on my computer. I chose Mint because I have heard from several sources that it is a good distro, particularly for beginners like me. I am currently running the Xfce edition of Mint 17. In my childhood, I have been forced to use Linux before, and I hated it, mostly because it was too hard for me to use and I could not play Windows games on it. This is quite different from today. I am not one of those people who can't stand Windows, but there are definitely things wrong with it; they are not the main reason I decided to install Linux. Mainly, I installed it because I am now a student of computer science, and I decided that Linux would be best for that. I was quite hesitant at first, and what pushed me was the course I am currently taking, which uses UNIX commands a lot. It was mentioned that I could install some utility called Cygwin, but rather than doing that, I decided to take the opportunity to finally install Linux. Another small factor is the release of the trainwreck known as Windows 8: with failures like that, there is just no reason to trust them anymore.

Right now, I have just started using it, and I have not really done anything with it yet. You may expect many questions from me in the future of the kind you would expect a completely ignorant person to ask.

I know this may be a bit too long and personal, but chances are, if you're browsing this forum, you want to know more about those random complete strangers you have never met before. Thank you for reading, and I hope your day goes well.
