Like many, I recently made the move to Linux because XP support ended. I researched my options and decided to give this Linux thing a try. Based on my very limited computer knowledge, I decided Mint or Ubuntu would be the way to go due to their well reported ease of use and excellent software repositories. Great timing, too, as both have put out LTS releases this year. I placed an order with OSDisc.com and have been running live off of flash drives for about 4 months. Mint gave me the experience I wanted for the machine I have, so I just recently installed it. So far, so good!
I enjoy writing music, so I'm most excited about all of the audio recording software available (ardour, audacity, etc). I've needed a good quality and convenient way to rough draft audio for quite some time. I hope there are a few among the Mint community that have gotten good results with these programs. I'll likely need your help. Thanks in advance!
I'm rehashing here what I put in my bio, but the things I'm most pleased with so far are:
1) my old computer runs significantly faster than it did with XP
2) I feel like I truly own and control my computer now
3) I really like the open source concept/movement
4) and using Linux has already taught me valuable information about how computers actually work.
I'm new to Linux and enjoying Mint. Hello!
