Greetings from Asbury Park

Post by Idjit BoB »

I do not live in Asbury Park. Actually quite far, but it was an icon of a by-gone era of my childhood on the Jersey Shore in the 50's and 60s. My favorite summer hang out as a teenager was Sea Bright. Now I live in the hills of Pennsylvania so I do get the chance to visit the old homestead from time to time.

My hobbies which I listed in my profile are "photography, backpacking and my grandkids... not necessarily in that order." I hope to add Linux to my list of hobbies. I didn't include retirement as a hobby, because it's sort of a grey area... in my mind anyway.

I hope to learn from you old heads... I should rephrase or qualify that to "Old heads Linux-wise" that is. I realize that there's probably more than a few young'ns here that will run circles around me. I am slow, but I also plod ahead so I'd appreciate the patience.

In case anyone is interested, it is true that older people do drive slow. But not always.

From a technical point of view it’s no longer tied to the Ubuntu schedule, so it could be released at any time, there’s no technical relevance between 14.10 and 17.1. Now, with that said, the 6 months cycle gave us rhythm and although quality and content dictate releases going public or being held back more so than dates or vague deadlines, the idea of a late November release is still there within the team and it helps us working towards that target.

Welcome to the Mint family forums

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.

Hi Bob. I'm glad to meet someone here that falls somewhere near my age group. I expect a lot of my interests are similar to yours. Learning what can be done with Linux should be both fun AND an adventure.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

To VTV,
Why didn't you just call yourself 6BC32?

I'm more a transistor theory kind of a guy. I don't think they teach that any more.
