What a relief!

Post by Matera » Wed Jun 24, 2015 11:55 am

I've been running Debian 7x Wheezy on my main machine for a year and a half and loving it. So I thought why not plop the latest version on the second box, a rather "experienced" HP XW8400 that I'd finally got settled down and running Windows smoothly. Well, I sure didn't love Jessie. I wasted a whole day trying to deal with the cranky beyotch. Then I came to my senses and downloaded Mint 17.2 “Rafaela” MATE RC.

I couldn't believe how fast it installed. Everything worked, no problem installing the software I needed, no unpleasant surprises, no interminable searches for tools that should have been at my fingertips. I was home again, in the best dual-boot system I've ever had.

Now I'm seriously considering converting two other computers. The feeling of betrayal I had, finding Debian 8.1 as miserable as Windows 8.1, left a bad taste. Mint is so soothing :D
When I have a computer problem, I call myself.

Welcome to the Mint family forums

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.

Welcome to Linux Mint, and the Mint forum. And if you ever get the urge to try Jessie again, try LMDE 2. Mint and Debian are perfect together. :D

Welcome to the family, and Happy Minting!

To go along with Crewp's thought, I'm running LMDE Betsy and loving it!
Of course, I did like Jessie (and Wheezy too).

Maybe you'd be interested in this thread as a study in opposites. ;)
