Learning Again is Fun and Frustrating

Postby KijBeta » Sun Jul 12, 2015 5:02 am

Hello Everyone,
I am Paul, I had learned a lot working with Redhat 10 years ago before changing my career path.
I am still dual booting because I am addicted to blizzard games. I will look at wine to see if it's viable at some point.
I was excited to see all my currently played Steam games were available.

This has been an interesting experience the last few days. It's like being severely bipolar.
The extreme anguish of getting things to work the way I want, searching forums for hours, finding the best option.
Then the sudden rush of elation and happiness when I finally get it working, and tweaking config files.

I went with Mint because I have been using windows exclusively for nearly 10 years, and I wanted something that was still slightly reminiscent.
Cinnamon has a nice menu system and a generally pleasing feel to it. I remembered some basic commands and structure from 10 years ago, but honestly it still feels so new.

This all actually started after I told my friend I could revive his old XP laptop, that was driver torture. But the excitement of making things just work for him to browse the web and edit documents was oddly fun. If it wasn't for that Easy Linux Tips website I would never have been able to get everything setup and smooth on that laptop.

I now firmly believe in linux masochism.
There were soo many times I almost came on these forums to cry for help, but I decided to read 10 more forums because... masochism.

Thank you for reading my randomness at 2am.

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.

Good site. I stumbled upon it while looking into how to customize the grub boot menu background (see: Make your Grub boot menu pretty)
