Hello from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle)

Post by tuxd »

Hi,

I live outside of Seattle, WA in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Normally, we have a lot of rain, but lately 90 degree (F) temps.

I've been using Linux as a desktop/laptop user for a few years, about 5 years on my laptop now. I had SuperOS then, then I switched to Linux Mint 13 KDE. I didn't like what Cinammon looked like at that time. I also tested out Xfce, but ended up picking KDE.

I just updated to 17.2 MATE. I like the return to the Gnome styling. I've been a fan of the desktop cube & wobbly windows since I discovered them & was happy it was so easy (once I discovered the setting selection box for compiz instead of marco).

Also, I'm of Irish descent, so rock on, Linux Mint team!

I'm not hardcore by any stretch. I started out because Vista pissed me off. Now I just love how available, robust, secure & stable Linux is. I'll never go back. I used to run XP in Virtualbox, but ONLY to download MP3's from Amazon. I just discovered it now works on Firefox for Linux, so I don't even need Wine now. Guinness, yes; Wine, no. :D

I've learned the occasional thing in terminal. I recently discovered gddrescue, so no need for K9copy. But mostly, I'm a desktop user, not a coder or a hacker or anything geekcore. Unless simply being a Linux user qualifies...

I do social media consulting and brand development for work.

I love hiking, camping, shooting, hunting, and running for when I can get outside the home. This is less often because we have small children. I love sci-fi & fantasy fiction, and some zombie/apocalyse fiction. I love Star Wars and Lord of the Rings (books, movies, and graphic novels).

I'm huge into music also. Hair Metal, Metal, Speed Metal, Classic Metal, Neo-Classical Metal, Progressive Metal, Power Metal, Death Metal, some Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Rap Metal, Industrial Metal, Alt. Metal, New Wave of American Post-Hardcore Metal, Metalcore, Melodic Metalcore. I don't like Screamo.

I also like Folk-Alternative, Alternative, Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Techno, Dubstep, some Indie/Emo, some singer-songwriter, some punk - both old school and pop punk. I like the occasional hip hop song, but it's kind of rare.

Just listened to: Worldview, which I would classify as Progressive/Power Metal with some World elements.

So that's me. Hello!

Welcome aboard, tuxd, from your neighbor over the mountains in Wenatchee where it is currently 97 degrees.

Welcome to the Mint family forums

The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he who, by peddling second-rate technology, led them into it in the first place.
