Moved from Windows to Mint finally
Hello from UK.
Installed mint on my laptop finally and destroyed my Windows 8.1 USB stick with a hammer. I'm pleased to say everything works perfectly and was a liberating experience.
Over 20 years of death by papercuts lead me here. I'll write about it one day but I'm just relaxing now and trying to remove the rest of my data from Google's ecosystem. All I want is my personal computer back without any online services, upselling, marketing and cost other than an IMAP box and I've got that now thanks to Mint and gandi.net.
Now to shift the smartphone addiction! That might be difficult. Going to uninstall one app a week until I don't use it any more for anything other than making calls. Then I'll buy a £20 pay as you go phone.

That shift from smartphone to dumbphone is also one that I did myself: for me, it turned out to be not so hard after all. And it certainly feels good to be free.

Welcome to Mint and welcome aboard,
I've been MS free and Android free (running SailfishOS on a Jolla) and I try to avoid using google for search when and where I can, and life is smoother, less
problematic, and more maintenance free, and above all, more enjoyable ! It's a great relief to be shut of MS, enjoy the ride

Some Nokia phones (newer but not smart phones) still have the "Snake" game. Cool stuff!

Re: Moved from Windows to Mint finally
Actually I just bought a Nokia 106 this morning. Decided to go cold turkey. Todo list stands at: kill the WiFi as it's unreliable and just use Ethernet (need to run some around the house), kill off all service subscriptions, move my desktop to mint (I haven't used it for months so it's going to be tined into an NFS server), quit Facebook and close google and Microsoft accounts.
