Hello All,
After a couple of years of lurking on here and a couple of donations I finally signed up.
I've been in and out of the Linux world since ~1998 (OpenLinux by Caldera!) and generally forgot what I learned in the times in between. Notable distros have included Gentoo (ah, my single days), Zenwalk, Debian and Crunchbang.
I've been using Mint since Maya (mid 2012?) on my home built archive server and on the kid's small netbook we have (with an SSD I managed to get in it - it really didn't like being opened up). Two completely different usage cases.
When I got some money together for a laptop to replace my broken MacBook (2006-2013) in 2014, I got a Thinkpad E440 i3 (pretty much the cheapest option with the word 'Thinkpad' on it) put an SSD in it and put Mint 17 on it, and thus far I've been really pleased with it, and getting back to daily Linux usage and increasing my skillset.
The current areas I'm interested in and whose threads I've been reading, are in disk health and monitoring for my server, website monitoring for the kids, and learning Python for myself.
Though I've been in Japan for a while, I originally hail from northern part of the UK.
