Another new mint user

Post by dude86264 »

I recently installed Mint 17.3 Mate 64-bit Alongside Windows 7.
This my first time using a Linux distro and it's going well so far, but I still have a lot to learn.
I decided to install mint because of all the bad things I've heard about Windows 10 and I heard mint is pretty easy to use.
I know I'll need some help with learning mint and the forum seems like the best place.
That is all for now.

Hi Dude,

I have W10, lots of features that bogs down the systems and slows it down to a crawl. And then there's the maleware. In fact, W10 is one big maleware. LM is so different. The community is different. So welcome, glad to have you with us. After a bit of use you'll come to love it, the same way we all do. You did well in choosing LM. Doesn't matter which flavour, Cinnamon, Mate, KDE... it's all good. Anyway, glad to have you with us.

Welcome aboard the Mint bandwagon!

I also happen to be new here, it's Day 4 for me. I switched for a similar reason, Windows is really becoming hideous, and Linux is much better for regular desktops today than it was a long time ago. Enjoy the OS!

Windows has always been known for malware and I've had some experience with it on win7. I'm using Mate and it works pretty well on my kind of old laptop and I don't think win10 would've worked very well on it.

Thanks to you and the others who replied for being kind and welcoming.

Hi Dude. I gave up Windows 12 years ago,but duel booted briefly when I became obsessed with Cubis2. When I got to a score of 40 million,I decided enough was enough and the next lts gutted Windows XP..
Anyway,I've been using ElementaryOS for several years, but it's really locked down and the newer one, even more so..After seeing I could not even choose a different terminal,I said nope, nope, nope!
MATE is also gracing my desktop and I set it up to look like eos.
I find the file manager to be ever so fetching with the double pane option.Sigh.
Anyway, I think you will be ever so pleased with your new operating system adventure.
Think of Windows 10 as Hotel California for computers.
