Hello everyone,

My name is Joe and I live outside of Atlanta in Georgia. I'm very close to Alabama. My family thinks I'm nuts for switching from Windows to Linux, but I couldn't be happier. I'm a long-time Mac user, and I bought a Dell laptop with Windows on it. I was looking for an operating system that didn't get in my way as much as Windows did, and I knew about Ubuntu, and after my research, I've settled on Linux Mint.

I've switched to Linux Mint about a month ago, and I have to say that, so far, I'm loving it. My needs are simple as I am a writer who publishes e-books on Kindle. In my app arsenal, I have LibreOffice, Sigil and Calibre, and once I get used to things, I'll get back into writing. For now, I'm having fun exploring on my own, and I hope these forums will help me understand Linux Mint even better. Also, I've not gotten used to Terminal, and when I'm ready, I'll learn more about it. Right now, I'm happy with the Cinnamon desktop. So far, I've successfully backed up to an external hard drive; I've got my Epson wireless printer working; and I've been exploring the apps. But that's not to say that I didn't run into challenges - but I've overcome every single roadblock I've faced. When I'm ready, I'll scour the forums for a proper solution.

Thank you so much for this community. I hope to meet some new Linux friends, and learn a lot more.

Hi "onlyjoe27",

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

"Focus Writer" is another really nice word processor that is available.

FocusWriter
https://gottcode.org/focuswriter/

How to Install FocusWriter 1.6 in (Linux Mint 18 or 17.x), August 28, 2016
-- from UbuntuHandbook - News, Tutorials, How tos for Ubuntu Linux
http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/201 ... 6-0416-10/

1.) To install this using the PPA method, open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gottcode/gcppa
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install focuswriter

2.) For those who don’t want to add the PPA, grab the latest ".deb" package directly from the PPA archive:

Click the easy to install Linux ".deb" file link in the link below for your computer (64-bit or 32-bit) and Linux Mint desktop, "Trusty" for Linux Mint 17.x and "Xenial" for Linux Mint 18.

Hope this helps ...
