Greetings from Brenham, TX!

Postby jlr1701 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 6:14 pm

Hey everybody,

I haven't been around here in a while. I use and like Windows 10 on my main computer, which is an older i7-3930k system. It's five years old, but hey, it does what I need it to do. :) The only reason I don't use Mint on my main system is 1) Secure Boot, which I don't know how to deal with and 2) my Bose Companion 5 speakers are not supported, and that is a deal killer. I know some folks have managed to get these speakers working in Linux, but no such luck for me...

BUT... I am happy to report running Mint 18 Cinnamon on an ancient Dell Vostro 1700 notebook computer with zero issues so far! This old computer has a Core 2 Duo CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and a 5400 RPM 160GB hard drive. But Mint runs decently! That's what I've always loved about Linux. It's fun to play with and it brings old computers back to life! I'm amazed but pleased that Mint runs so well so far on this ancient machine.

But anyway... my Linux skills are five years old and rusty, but I'm happy to be playing with it again. And hello from Brenham, Texas! :)
