Slowly converting from Windows

Postby JasonStonier » Sun Nov 12, 2017 6:39 am

Hi all.

I've been trying to convert for years, used linux for a lot of work stuff as I used to manage infrastructure projects using linux, but never properly learned it or found a distribution that worked the way I wanted it to. I decided to fully take the plunge now that Microsoft has launched Windows: Spyware Edition. After going through many many distributions I landed on Mint and I love it, so my congratulations to the community for a great project.

I've been using it as my main machine now for a few months and loving it. There is an almost infinity of things I don't understand, but I'm getting there. I love the fact that it feels like being in a modern version of the computers I loved back in the 80s and 90s - Macs and Amigas.

So apart from Microsoft Excel (I have some very heavy weight macros which are absolutely critical to the charity I run) running in a Windows 7 virtual machine, and a Mac laptop, I'm a linux boy at last. Even my charity's Windows Server Domain Controller is running in a VM in Linux Mint now (makes it easier to back up).

So, my heartfelt thanks to the community for making a linux distribution I could finally fall in love with.

Hello JasonStonier and Welcome Aboard the Linux Mint Forums,
Glad you enjoy this Distro it's the one I keep coming back too. Though there are many good distros out there this one just feels like home for me.
Hope to see you around the forum and enjoy the learning.

Thanks!

My main machine is Mint, and I often get donations of laptops to my charity which I refurbish with Mint or, for the low spec machines, Bodhi (which is also awesome).

for those low-spec PCs - - do look at anti-X:
http://antix.mepis.org
it's been designed for those lower spec's.

Welcome JasonStonier!

Great to hear you're liking Mint. Many of us are/were in the same boat. Take your time, ask questions.
Don't forget to edit your original post and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the Subject line if your problem has been fixed.
My main language is English. I speak very little Portuguese, and a whole lot of gibberish.
